Harlan + Holden
📍 Manila, Metro Manila
Harlan + Holden Glasshouse Cafe holds the distinction of being one of the most internationally published interiors in Philippine hospitality history — featured in Dezeen, Metropolis Magazine, Wallpaper*, and Yinjispace, and recognised globally as a definitive example of the biophilic café interior. The design by Copenhagen studio GamFratesi floods the space with living greenery, hand-formed GamFratesi furniture in soft putty and blush, and a greenhouse glass ceiling that blurs the boundary between interior and garden.
Lighting a space designed by an internationally celebrated studio — and one that would be photographed, shared, and scrutinised by a global design audience — demanded particular care. Lumitron specified Zico Dim-to-Warm linear luminaires in the ceiling coves and behind the shelved plant displays, providing a warm amber glow that reads as natural candlelight against the green foliage. As the day progresses from the bright lunchtime café service toward the intimate evening cocktail menu, the Dim-to-Warm system shifts the entire atmosphere from welcoming to romantic without a single scene change by the front-of-house team.
SORAA MR16 lamps were deployed at the pastry and coffee counter — chosen for their ability to render the amber caramel tones of freshly baked goods and the deep brown of specialty espresso with a visual accuracy that makes the counter display compelling from across the room. In a café where the aesthetic quality of the food and beverage is inseparable from the brand, this distinction between SORAA and commodity LED is visible and commercially significant.
Harlan + Holden is evidence that internationally recognised café design in the Philippines is being supported by internationally sourced, locally distributed lighting technology — and that Lumitron is the partner that makes that convergence possible.
