Txanton

Txanton, tucked along the boutique dining corridor of Pasong Tamo Extension in Makati, is the Philippines' most authentic Spanish ham-and-wine experience — a space that functions simultaneously as a delicatessen, wine cellar, and refined dining room. The clientele arrives as much to browse the jamón ibérico hanging from the ceiling as to eat, and the lighting is required to serve both purposes: specimen-quality display illumination for the products and intimate warmth for the tables.

Lumitron resolved this with a split specification. The jamón display corridor and cheese cabinet received Prolicht's narrow-beam Xtube downlights at CRI 97 — deliberately over-specified for colour accuracy to ensure that the amber fat of an acorn-fed ham and the crystalline surface of aged Manchego read with complete fidelity, matching the visual standard of the best Spanish deli displays in Madrid or San Sebastián. The 10° beam angle creates clean pools of light on each specimen without washing the adjacent surfaces and diluting the drama.

The dining area used a warmer, softer approach: Moltoluce hand-blown glass pendants suspended above each table at seated eye level, producing a diffuse amber glow that makes the space feel as though it were lit by dozens of candles rather than by LED technology. Moltoluce's Italian manufacture and commitment to genuine glass — not polycarbonate — gives the pendants a visual depth that reads correctly at the close distances of a dining table.

Txanton is a case study in specialty retail-dining lighting in the Philippines — and in why the choice between Prolicht precision and Moltoluce atmosphere is not an either/or decision, but a layering exercise that Lumitron has refined across years of F&B work in Metro Manila.
